New Patients at Roots Chiropractic

Welcome to Roots Chiropractic! We’re excited to bring you the specific and safe chiropractic care you’ve been looking for. When you enter our practice, we hope you’ll feel like a part of our family – because that’s how we aim to care for you. Our office is focused on being child-friendly – we have lots of books and toys available to help make your little one’s visit with us more fun!

Your First Visit

Once your initial appointment has been scheduled, we will send you your intake form to be filled out online prior to your visit. Once you get to our office, we’ll spend some time in our consultation room where Dr. Shadley or Dr. Tom will get to know you a little better and discuss why you’re seeking care. We’ll talk a little bit about what chiropractic care is and how it can benefit the body before beginning our thorough spinal examination. Depending on your situation, our examination may involve the following:

  • Complete Health History
  • Functional Movement Evaluation
  • Neurological Evaluation
  • Orthopedic Assessment
  • Soft tissue Palpation
  • Joint Motion Palpation

If we believe that your problem may be more complex and require X-rays, we’ll refer you to a local imaging center and see you back the following day to review your examination findings. For practice members who don’t need X-rays, we can begin care with your first adjustment on this very same day. In most cases, x-rays are not required to start care in our office.

Based on your examination findings we will discuss your recommended care plan and answer any questions that you might have. We want to make sure you have all of the information you need to make the best decision for your health.

Care with us is always gentle and safe, so there’s no need to be nervous. If you have a specific technique or adjustment style that you prefer, please let us know. We want you to be as comfortable as possible in our care!

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in for the evaluation.
What should I bring?

If you have any x-rays, imaging, or other health reports, please bring those with you.
How long will each visit last?

The first appointment lasts about 45-60 minutes. Follow-up appointments are typically 15 minutes.
Can I bring my kids with me?

Absolutely! We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly office.
Do you accept my insurance?
We are in-network providers for UPMC and Highmark/BCBS commercial plans. We also offer an affordable self-pay rate with Superbills (itemized receipt) that can be submitted to any other insurance provider for reimbursement based on your out-of-network benefits. Feel free to call the office or email us to inquire about the self-pay rates. We are not accepting new Medicare or Medicaid patients.

When patients begin care with us, many of them ask if they’ll need to come forever. At Roots Chiropractic, we want you to know that we’ll never require you to visit us or do something that you aren’t comfortable with. In many cases, after a patient is feeling better following a period of ongoing adjustments, they choose to return for wellness care occasionally to maintain their spinal health.

A good way to think about it is like visiting the dentist – you keep up with your teeth cleanings for preventative health and to catch a problem before it becomes too big. The same can be said for maintenance chiropractic visits.
